Clay Horse Pottery was named for Leonardo DaVinci's 16th century giant clay horse. The business was born when MaryAnn Nellis, a potter whose work reflects her life long passion for equines, placed her studio in a storefront in Canajoharie, New York. There she could create as well as sell her work. She was soon very pleasantly surprised by the large numbers of exceptionally talented local craftspeople and artists coming into her studio and began accepting consignments from them in a variety of media. This developed into a wonderful working relationship since it is often extremely difficult for the artist to show or sell his or her work and their art graced the walls and displays, providing a wonderful and exciting environment in which MaryAnn could work as well as greet her customers. The studio/gallery provided a distinctive shopping experience, where discriminating customers were able to purchase truly original and one of a kind art and gifts.
Continuing in this tradition, Clay Horse Pottery, now proudly partnered with BK Studio, is still located in the beautiful Mohawk Valley. The gallery is located at The Shops at 25 West, a renovated stone mill building, reborn as an antique and retail center in Canal Place, Little Falls, New York. The work of twenty-two local artists is proudly shown in the gallery space where large windows in the gallery provide natural lighting and overlook the falls of the Mohawk River.
